The Markkula Center for Applied Ethics, Santa Clara University, Santa Clara, CA
Entwine Global founder Almaz Negash developed the Global Leadership and Ethics Program and implemented the operational framework to form partnerships throughout the world. Santa Clara University is one of the preeminent centers for research and dialogue on ethical issues involving global leadership organizations to promote ethical and moral issues.
Microenterprise & Entrepreneurship Development
Almaz Negash was responsible for the operational development, launch of the Women’s Initiative program of Silicon Valley, a movement to help high potential low-income women in leading entrepreneurial ventures, and overcome both economic and social barriers. To do this, Ms. Negash worked closely with corporations, foundations, government leaders, and individuals to raise social investment money. Women’s Initiative is one of the largest microenterprises in the U.S.
Seawater Farms – Eritrea
In 1998, Almaz Negash instigated the formation of a joint venture partnership between Seawater Farms of Arizona and the Government of Eritrea. The joint venture, between 1999 and 2003 expanded employment to almost 800 people, shipped one metric ton of premium shrimp a week to Europe and the Middle East, cultivated 100 hectares of the oil seed crop Salicornia, and almost complete the planting of 100 hectares of seawater forest.
CSR In Action
Almaz Negash is the co-author of this important book teaching how corporations can create and implement formal corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs. Each chapter features an interview by a contributor to the book, providing insights, templates, models, examples and resources. The chapters provide actionable steps and thoughtful perspectives on how organizations can actively engage in eco initiatives, employee giving, volunteering, and well informed sustainable business practices.
Learningbytes
Learningbytes is an educational program at West Valley College that promotes the educational and professional opportunities available in California’s digital media/ entertainment industry to high school and middle school students. The concept of Learningbytes is rooted in the belief that if you provide California youth, an increasingly multicultural and economically diverse group, with creative venues from which they can learn and explore technology, seeds of success will be planted. Ms. Negash was again a key part of supporting the growth of this important socially responsible venture.
Silicon Valley Center for International Trade Development
For these clients, Ms. Negash managed a team of employees as well as an independent consultant (who in turn advised over 200 client companies), and helped realize a 20% increase in sales for these companies as a direct result of her work. She also helped formulate and develop marketing, distribution, export strategies, and commercial partnerships to assist companies in gaining millions of dollars in contracts.
The California Mexico Trade Assistant Center
In 2000, Ms. Negash helped design and implement the California Mexico Trade Assistance Center Program to facilitate trade between California and Mexico businesses. She hosted several outgoing and incoming business delegations. Through the program, she assisted in the establishment of the Zapopan Export Assistance Center in Mexico, increasing the number of firms exporting and importing goods and services by 15%.
Create Tech Village – CTVC
CREAT enables enterprises to maximize their competitive advantages in new markets worldwide, by modeling the Create Tech Village on the distinctive chemistry of the Silicon Valley Community — in other locations of the world. CREAT is a technology cluster, which works closely with the governments of select countries, and exists as an American Academia-Research technology trade village to benefit communities through entrepreneur successes. Ms. Negash was a major force in helping the CTVC to become a reality.
Bay Area World Trade Center
As International Business Development Manager, Almaz Negash worked for many years at the Bay Area World Trade Center in San Francisco. She advised clients on marketing, distribution, export strategies and commercial partnerships resulting in more than $40 million sales for client companies. She led high-level trade delegations to Europe, Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
